Chapter 11, Stone Fox
The Winner
Little Willy stepped over the finish line. Suddenly the crowd cheered. But Searchlight was gone and no one could bring her back. Her spirit stayed strong.
The memory of Searchlight was still in little Willy's mind.
Stone Fox put away his riffle and said, “You have brave
dog...Me wish Stone Fox dogs be better.”
Little Willy walked home. Little Willy took a glance at the farm. He saw someone waving in the distance. It was Grandfather, healthy as a newborn baby. Willy hugged Grandfather. The tax man was standing right next to Grandfather.
“Here's the money,” little Willy said.
“Thank you boy,” the tax man said.
“Can we keep the farm?”little Willy asked.
“Yes,” answered the tax man.
“We can keep the farm!” little Willy said. “But I wish Searchlight could see this.”
